Science
Subject Leader: Mr Fraser
In Science lessons, we follow the National Curriculum. The national curriculum expectations have been divided equally into four topics; Working Scientifically, Materials, Physical Processes and Life Processes and Living Things (Chemistry, Physics and Biology).
Our learning in Science is enquiry based. Each of our topics begins with a big question which is referred to each lesson and gradually answered by the end of a unit. All of our units of work are supported by knowledge organisers which support the children's learning. They provide; the big question, learning objectives, useful prior learning and vocabulary.
The emphasis will be on the skills and knowledge and then how to apply these in answering scientific questions. To see the coverage of topics please see the whole school overview below. To understand more about how our scientific skills progress please see our skills progression.

Long Term Plans
SEND
Teachers are well skilled at adapting teaching to meet the diverse range of needs in each class. Daily planning considers individual pupil’s needs and requirements, and adaptive teaching is used where appropriate.
A range of adaptations are considered to promote equality of access and ensure that all pupils can experience success and challenge in their learning. Grouping arrangements are organised flexibly with opportunities for both ability and mixed setting to maximise learning opportunities for all.

Useful Documents
The document above is found in every child's Science book at St Mark's. Every lesson we work scientifically on one theme and our skills in Science improve through grouping, observing, researching, using data and ensuring fair tests. There are end of year expectations for these working scientifically skills which progress every Key Stage.
